KSC students scan heads to enter Zorn Dining Commons

The Zorn Dining Commons at Keene State College has recently experienced a problem regarding students and staff walking into the building without scanning their cards or hands. In response to the problem, DC managers have purchased a machine that requires students to scan their face upon entering the building.

Manager of DC Services Kendra Simmons, said the machine will require students to bend over where the hand machine used to be and gently place their face on a glass tablet. The tablet then scans the face, granting or rejecting access to the facility. “This was the only option we had to make sure students don’t walk into the building and eat for free,” Simmons said.

However, this new investment has not come without consequences. KSC students are also concerned about how sanitary the new system is. KSC freshman Kala Roost said she thinks bending over to scan her face is disgusting and, when the machine is installed, she will cancel her meal plan.

According to Simmons, the machine will be installed over the summer and be ready for the fall semester. “Students could have stopped this from happening but now we have no choice,” Simmons said.
