    In a Nut Shell

So this is it, the final nutshell.

    In a Nutshell

So this is it, the final nutshell.  Its hard to even figure out what to say given that I’ve only really been writing this for one semester.  I’m a food nerd, however if you have read my column this semester you already knew that.

In a nicely grilled nutshell summer is coming, I can smell it.

Want to know what else I can smell? (Ew, no.  Nothing like that). I smell the rich aroma of beautifully charred food, carried over from a neighboring yard.

Ok, let me clear up one thing first.

    In a Nutshell

Ok, let me clear up one thing first.  I don’t condone drinking, especially not in excess.
That said, I am willing to bet a majority of college students have woken up with that all too familiar feeling of simply wanting to succumb to what you’re sure will be a long and arduous death...

I am not a shopper, at least not by normal standards.

    In a Nutshell

am not a shopper, at least not by normal standards. I shudder at the thought of going shopping for clothes or other relatively meaningless items.  Don’t even get me started about malls and their artificially-created environments, specifically designed to inspire people to buy, buy, buy.

Leavening essential in the cookie world

    In a Nutshell

What smells like home? What scent makes you sigh and say “I’m home” after a deep inhale? I suppose this is a purely hypothetical question because, in reality, there are several things that come to my mind.

The smell of a warm breakfast cooking

There is only one thing that gets a person out of bed in the morning faster than an alarm clock.
It is the smell of a warm breakfast cooking.
What is the truly great thing about breakfast? That is an easy one; it is the sheer variety of food possibilities. What other meal do we have where it is acceptable and typical to have fruit, vegetables, meat, bread, pastries, dairy products, grains and eggs all on one plate?

    Something to snack on

They are evil, manipulative, deceptive and my inexplicable attachment to them bites me in the butt every single time. And yet, I keep going back. For some, snacking is just something to pass the time, but for me, it’s an art form. First the good news: snacking isn’t a bad thing. As a matter of fact, it can sometimes play an integral role in weight loss. According to the Mayo Clinic, a well planned weight loss plan can actually include healthy snacks as a means of holding back the hunger between meals.

Legumes that are packing many proteins

Lately, conversations with my friends have been ‘humm’ing with one surprising topic. Hummus.
It is perhaps one of the most esthetically unappealing foods there is, hands down.
A bowl of hummus appears to be the unique combination of regurgitated baby food and something Fido would leave behind.

The benefits of trying anything at least once

If there was one thing my kindergarten teacher taught me that seems to have stuck over the years, it’s “no thank you helpings.”
Mrs. Gravel always insisted we take a bite-sized portion of whatever food was being offered, whether we actually liked it or not.  I never would have tried such delicacies as green bean casserole or mac n’ cheese from scratch had it not been for this sampling method.

    Confessions of a coffee connoisseur

    In A Nutshell

My name is Eliza Stinneford and I am an addict. My drug of choice? Coffee. It’s a beverage that’s always there for me when I need comfort or a pick-me-up. I need it like I need sleep, although sometimes it even takes the place of this necessity.

    The Cigarette Afterwards

    May 6

    The Cigarette Afterwards

Eight months ago I started something. I chose to put myself on the line and write about things most people won’t write about.

    April 29

    The Cigarette Afterwards

The other night I got out of work and called my best friend to see where she was. I expected to hear music in the background and perhaps the slurred voices of my other friends that signify that they are kicking off the weekend the only way we know how.

    April 22

    The Cigarette Afterwards

My mom spent a girl’s weekend in Portland, Maine recently. She and her friends are having a difficult time turning the big 5-0 and decided a weekend of drinking and shopping would ease the pain of their constant aging.

    April 15th

    The Cigarette Afterwards

I recently competed in a dodgeball tournament hosted by the Big Brothers Big Sisters club. I won’t lie, I was much more excited about creating the team uniforms than picking up a ball and throwing it at someone. I got out my puffy paints, went to town and the shirts were fabulous.

    April 8th

    The Cigarette Afterwards

I used to work at a grocery store and one of my responsibilities was to empty the scratch ticket machine each night.

    April 1st

I was on Facebook, big surprise, when I discovered one of my close friends would be coming to Keene this weekend.

    March 4th

I recently experienced a night and morning from hell.

I should have known it was coming since I’d been doing pretty well recently. When bad things hit me, they come in groups. No single bad thing can happen to me without another bad thing following closely in its footsteps.

    March 11th

Being a senior, I’ve obviously toyed with the idea of getting a job after college. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve definitely got a spot waiting for me behind the cash register at Market Basket, but I’ve also given some thought to a career change. I have therefore submitted resumes to several employers.

    Lauren Danie

Let me make a list of things I can’t afford: Coach purses, an iPhone, food (sometimes), field trips, car payments, food for my hamster Henry, you get the gist. After reading a column by Brian Anderson, I have come to realize that I, as well as he, cannot afford Red Sox tickets. Thank you Brian for adding to my extensive list. This low light in my financial outlook has not, however, stopped me from watching my beloved Sox.
