The Equinox has become aware that three counts of extensive plagiarism have taken place within the past month in regards to our sports section.  To our current knowledge, the instances are as follows:

    • “It pays to be patient,” published on Sept. 24, 2009 from The Equinox column “What’s your fantasy?”  Content in this article was taken from ESPN’s “Week 3 pickups” by Matthew Berry.
    • “ Fantasy Day of Forgiveness,” published on Oct. 1, 2009 from The Equinox column “What’s your fantasy?” Content in this article was taken from ESPN’s “Week 4 pickups” by Matthew Berry.
    • “Tough choices,” published on Oct. 15, 2009 from The Equinox column “What’s your fantasy?”  Content in this article was taken from ESPN’s “Week 6 pickups” by Matthew Berry.

The Equinox does not tolerate the act of plagiarism in any form. The editorial board immediately dismissed the author -- our former sports editor -- for such actions.  All of the content written by said author has been removed from the KeeneEquinox.com Web site.
The highest standards of journalism are applied at The Equinox and we are fully aware that these acts of plagiarism have waived such principles.  However, The Equinox, as both a newspaper and a student organization, is doing everything we can to assure that such actions do not further compromise our product’s integrity and our allegiance to the principles of journalism.  In the immediate future, The Equinox will be running all of our articles through a plagiarism search engine in order to help prevent any more unforeseen incidents of this nature.
The Equinox would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Keene State College and the student body, the journalism department and to all of our readers for printing these plagiarized articles.  We would also like to apologize to Matthew Berry for publishing his works.
The Equinox is ready to move past this event and consider it a learning experience.  We will maintain a service to our readers and the community; we will deliver information and news using fair and balanced reporting; and we will  continue to adhere to the fundamental conventions of journalism.
