Behind the madness of Recreational Sports
Anyone on campus who has visited the Spaulding Gymnasium can see the high-quality facilities Keene State College offers. A lot of work is put into running the gym smoothly and efficiently.
Sid the kid. The golden child. Sidney Crosby, the greatest hockey player in the world is the Pittsburgh Penguins’ star center. At 19 he was the only teenager to ever lead the NHL in scoring and became just the seventh player to win the Art Ross Trophy, Hart Memorial Trophy and Lester B. Pearson Award in the same season. Now he’s 22 and, in less than one year, has become the youngest captain to ever hoist the Stanley Cup and followed it up last month by scoring the winning goal in overtime to grab a gold medal at the winter Olympics. He’s done it all. The next great one. He’s a national hero.
The recap of a successful KSC sports season
Every winter, Keene State College athletes participate in several sports. Typically the biggest sport in terms of student interest and popularity is basketball. This winter, as the season draws to an end, the sport on everyone in the Spaulding Gymnasium’s mind is swimming
These days, Fantasy sports have become an enormous enterprise. Forget having a group of people predicting the outcome of a game; ESPN has entire teams of people whose only job is to predict which players will give you the best value for your draft picks. Records and notable achievements, such will be the story of the 2010 Lady Owls basketball graduating class… at least to those not on the team.
Najem returns from running with world’s best in New Mexico
Senior Keene State College student Peter Najem ran the 800 meter race in the USA Indoor Track and Field Championship last Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M. and was the first student from KSC to qualify in the event in the school’s history.
I have recently come to the conclusion that there aren’t enough sports in my life.
As a college student, I regularly watch four hours worth of SportsCenter every morning just to watch the top ten plays four times. Web sites I have favored exclude just about anything non-sports related. All of my heroes wear their names on the back of their jerseys. I one time even skipped a class to read the minute-by-minute notes of a soccer game for a team I didn’t even like.
