On Monday afternoon, a large tree fell in the southeast corner of Fiske Quad. While no students were injured in the incident, many students were in the area, including a group of students sitting on nearby benches.
According to Mike Gomez, a campus safety officer, those students were among a large group of people to call and report the incident. President Helen Giles-Gee said that she was glad the incident didn’t happen during commencement. Bud Winsor, Assistant Director of the Physical Plant, said the tree had different sections that were wired together in 1992. Winsor also said the tree would be cleaned up by Monday evening and a decision about the remaining portion of the tree would be made as soon as possible.
